Cafe Difabis Kebayoran Lama Hospital is a social project initiated by BAZNAS (BAZIS) DKI Jakarta together with the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta as part of efforts to provide inclusive productive spaces in public facilities. Designed by YPA Architecture Studio, the building stands on a 50 m² plot with a building area of 17.3 m², maximizing the limited space through a simple, efficient, and user-friendly layout. The main mass functions as a production and service space, while the spacious terrace area around it is optimized for sitting and relaxing. The openness of the space and easy accessibility are key points in making this cafe comfortable for everyone, including people with disabilities.
Architecturally, the café’s design strikes a balance between functionality and visual warmth. Simple massing is combined with sloping planes on the façade, giving it a dynamic character and strong visual identity. The most striking element is the transparent canopy roof with a light and rhythmic yellow-green steel frame structure. This transparent material allows natural light to penetrate the outdoor seating area without making the space feel hot, creating a shaded and bright atmosphere. The terrace area, which shades the visitors’ tables and chairs, is designed as an extension of the interior space, providing fluid and friendly social interaction. Meanwhile, the white wall finish combined with dark vertical panel accents emphasizes a modern character while remaining contextual to the clean and orderly hospital environment.
The interior design is simple and efficient, with an L-shaped layout that optimizes the barista’s workspace. Modular furniture, hanging shelves, and ceramic backsplashes are precisely arranged to support coffee and snack serving activities with an ergonomic workflow. Natural lighting from wide openings and additional track lighting provide a warm and functional atmosphere for workers inside. Although still in the pre-construction phase, Cafe Difabis RSUD Kebayoran Lama already reflects how small architecture can have a big impact, combining social values, accessibility, and design efficiency into a meaningful, beautiful space that humanizes its users.
