Mahardhika House is a contemporary tropical residential project designed by YPA Architecture Studio in 2024, located in Purbalingga, Central Java. With a site area of 220 square meters and a building area of 80 square meters, this house adopts an efficient design approach while still providing maximum comfort in everyday life. .
The architectural concept of Mahardhika House stems from the need for a residence that is adaptive to the tropical climate and modern family life. The roster wall elements are a key feature that not only strengthens the visual identity but also functions as passive ventilation and natural light filtering. This strategy creates optimal cross-ventilation, keeping the rooms cool throughout the day without relying on artificial cooling.
The building’s massing is arranged in a linear, elongated layout, creating a strong connection between indoor spaces and the surrounding greenery. Transitional spaces such as open verandas and terraces offer a dynamic spatial experience while acting as a buffer against external heat. The presence of productive trees like papaya and orange also supports the concept of sustainable living while strengthening the residents’ connection with nature.
The interior of the house is designed with a warm color palette and local materials, creating a calm and humble atmosphere. The use of large openings and interior grilles emphasizes the openness between spaces and provides even natural lighting. With a design approach that integrates with the local context and culture, Mahardhika House represents an environmentally friendly, functional, and nature-integrated tropical residence.
This project reflects YPA Architecture Studio’s commitment to creating contextual, sustainable, and human-centered architectural designs, making the house not just a place to live but also a space that grows in harmony with life.
