Adhara House is a manifestation of our vision at YPA Architecture Studio to create a home that is not only functional but also able to breathe within the tropical climate of South Tangerang, Banten. Built on a SITE AREA of 180 m² with a BUILDING AREA of 159 m², this project underwent a meticulous construction process in collaboration with the Barakaja team from mid-2025 until its completion in mid-2026. Our primary focus was to create an honest dialogue between modern materials and natural elements, ensuring the home feels warm yet remains contemporary.
On the facade, we explored the contrast of the building’s mass through a play of neutral gray tones combined with bold red brick accents on the upper floor. The tropical character is enhanced by the use of repetitive concrete lattice walls, providing texture to the fence while serving as a dynamic filter for air and natural light. We also designed the main entrance area with a minimalist approach, using a black iron gate with a delicate perforated pattern that maintains privacy without completely blocking the surrounding environment.
Upon entering the interior, we aimed to create a seamless transition through the corridor with its clean, gray ceramic flooring. In certain corners, we incorporated touches of wood into the flooring and doors to add warmth amidst the dominance of white walls. One of the key elements we highlight is the integration of space through large glass openings with bold black frames, which blur the boundaries between interior and exterior areas. Circulation areas like the staircase also receive detailed attention with the use of terracotta tiles that contrast with the clean white walls surrounding them.
The heart of Adhara House lies in the presence of an inner courtyard or central garden designed as a private oasis for the residents. This area features a minimalist water feature and a gravel bed, creating a serene atmosphere that can be enjoyed from the living room or bedrooms through transparent sliding doors. With this design, sunlight can penetrate deep into the house and air can circulate crosswise, making Adhara House a home that is not only visually aesthetic but also thermally comfortable for the family living within.
